According to Marla Ahlgrimm, generic drugs are alternatives to name brands. They are identical in every way that matters to the brand name, although they are not released until a specified amount of time has passed after FDA approval of the formulation. Just like the original, generic medications undergo extensive quality and safety checks, and are manufactured in a laboratory subject to inspection by the Food and Drug Administration.

Many people mistakenly believe that because generics are often less than half the price of the name brand that they are not the same quality. This is an absolute falsehood and something Marla Ahlgrimm wishes that more consumers would accept. The reason, she asserts, that generics are less expensive is because the manufacturers are not subject to testing. The drug or drug combination has already been approved.
